" YHVH DECODED / UNVEILED "

"A STUDY IN HIS NAME – THE NAME OF GOD – AS MANIFESTED IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST"

 by: D.L.Williams

The enemy has sown many tares in the body producing his desired result – Confusion.

Ask any Christian God’s Name and you will hear any number of responses.

Ask any Muslim God’s Name and you will hear only one response.

Advantage Islam. Even though incorrect it brings unity and strength to their faith.

God has provided the same unity and strength to His body with a Name which is

“Above every name”.

It is most unfortunate that His body chooses, in many instances, to allow Confusion to have its way.

First, it must be established that God has only one name. He may have thousands

of titles that describe His attributes and character but only one name. A quick look

at a concordance shows that “name” only occurs in the singular when in relation to

God or the Lord. Always it is “The Name of God” or “the Name of the Lord”.

Never is “name” in the plural when referencing God. It is used in the plural when

speaking of Baal, however, e.g. “the names of Baal”.  A crucial distinction must be

made in the body concerning the difference between a name and a title.

This is where Confusion can easily enter and has. Books have been written with good intentions

to show God’s attributes and titles with titles which include the phrase “Names of God”.

Again, Scripture never uses this word in the plural when referencing God.. or the Lord.

Second, it must be established that our knowledge of God’s Name must come from Him.

As you must reveal your name to a stranger in order to be known by him/her,

so God has to reveal His Name in order for us to know Him. If the person you meet

tells you his name is Jerry and you insist it should be Harold and begin to use that

name to address him what are the prospects for a successful relationship?

How much more then if we neglect the Name that the God of our universe has revealed

to us by which we should address Him. It is no small matter. God gave man the authority

to name the creatures of the earth but not the Creator. That holy Name

can only be known by Divine Revelation.

Third, it must be established that our source for that revelation must be the holy

Scriptures as found in the Old and New Testaments in the Bible in the original

languages. This ,of course, is a faith claim. It is presuppositional to any further

claims in this study. This is a foundational premise on which the building rests. All claims from

this study will be resting upon this statement of faith: The Bible in the original languages is the

complete and inerrant revelation of the Word of God given to mankind.  If one chooses not to

accept this faith claim as to the authority of the

Bible it can still be shown from its own pages that The Lord Jesus Christ is the one

and only revealed Name of God in the holy scriptures called the Word of God, the Bible.

In fact the Name of God is also known as the Word of God—The Lord Jesus.

In Him we have the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit   Matt 28:19 Acts 2:38

This, of course, is just a sample of the inexhaustible titles and designations of our

Glorious Lord Jesus Christ in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

“All things have been created by Him and for Him, and He is before all things and

In Him all things hold together.”  Colossians 1:16,17

All titles, attributes and designations of the Deity refer back to the one Name of

The Triune Godhead, The Lord Jesus Christ, in whom all the fullness of Deity dwells.

This is the “Name which is above every name” to which “every knee will bow and every

tongue will confess.”   Philippians 2:9-11

The Triune Godhead establishes its unity by the one Name given to the Son by the

Father: “Holy Father keep them in Thy Name, the Name which Thou has given Me.”

John 17:11

“…as He has inherited a more excellent Name than they…and let all the angels of

God worship Him.”  Hebrews 1:4,6      “I have come in my Father’s Name and you did not

receive Me.”  John 5:43     “Therefore also GOD Highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him

the NAME which is above every name.” Philippians 2:9

The Triune Godhead receives its Glory from the one Name inherited by the Son from the Father:

“Father glorify Thy Name.” Jn 12:28  “Father glorify Thy Son.” John 17:1

And whatever you ask in my Name that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son,”

John 14:13

“So that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the Glory

and Dominion forever and ever. Amen.  1 Peter 4:11

“For if they had understood it they would not have crucified the LORD of Glory”

  1 Corinthians 2:2

“Who is this King of Glory? The LORD of Hosts, He is the King of Glory.”

  Psalm 24:10

“Blessed be the LORD GOD and blessed be His Glorious NAME forever. And may

the whole earth be filled with His GLORY. Amen and Amen.”  Psalm 72:19

“For it is THE GOD who commanded light to shine out of darkness who has shone

in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the GLORY of GOD in the face

(PERSON) of JESUS CHRIST.”  2 Corinthians 4:6

“In order that the NAME of our LORD JESUS CHRIST may be glorified in you.”

  2 Thessalonians 1:12

“So that in all things GOD may be glorified through JESUS CHRIST,

to whom belongs the GLORY and Dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

1Peter 4:11

The Second Person of the Trinity became the Second Adam in order to enter

The Second Veil to establish the Second Covenant to give us Second Birth to escape

The Second Death and to be ready for His Second Coming and His Second Creation.

See Hebrews 8,9,10.

The Second or New Testament reveals to us the one and only Name which is above

every name to which we are commanded to believe in, to be baptized in, to walk in,

to pray in, to preach in, to sing in, to worship, to glorify, to praise, to wait for, and

“whatever we do we do it all in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Col 3:17

So where is the name that would usurp the authority and position of our Lord ?

It cannot be found in the Holy Scriptures of the Old or New Testaments.

The Old Testament asks:

“To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you liken Him?” Isa 40:18

The New Testament answers:

“And He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God,,,”  Colossians 1:15

“And He (Jesus) is the …the exact image of His nature…”   Hebrews 1:3

The Old Testament asks:

“To whom then will you liken Me and make Me equal and compare Me that we

  should be alike?”   Isaiah 46:5

The New Testament answers:

“And He (Jesus) was calling God His Father making Himself equal with God”Jn5:18

Jesus Himself testifies to this fact: “If you had known Me you would have known My

Father also; from now on you know Him and have seen Him… he who has seen Me

has seen the Father also.” John 14:7,9     Jesus is the exact image of the invisible God,

making Himself equal with God.            “He who descended is Himself also He who ascended

far above the heavens that He might fill all things….until we all attain to the

unity of the Faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God.”  Ephesians 4:10,13

“IN HIM ALL THE FULNESS OF DEITY DWELLS IN BODILY FORM.” Col 2:9

“Come now and let us reason together, says the LORD.”  Isaiah 1:18

Logic is defined as the science of pure reasoning. The application of logic to the

Scriptures can only bring glory to the Wonderful Name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

“In whom we have all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Colossians 2:3

To syllogize is to reason by syllogism. A syllogism is a logically consistent argument

consisting of two propositions and a conclusion deduced from them. Come and let us

reason together using this method of Logic to give glory to the Name of the LORD

SAVE  ME,  O  GOD,  BY  THY  NAME.   PSALM 54:1

For there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be

Saved.   And there is salvation in no one else.  Acts 4:12

SYLLOGISM:

:                          The Word of God as revealed in the New Testament Scriptures states:

“God highly exalted Him (Jesus) and bestowed on Him the Name

which is above every name.” Phil 2:9   Again in another scripture:

“And seated Him (Jesus) at His right hand far above all rule and

authority,,, and every name that is named.” Ephesians 1:20,21

Proposition 1: The Name given by God (revealed in the New Testament) is the Name

                          above every name -- Jesus

Scholars, within the last 500 years of Christian history, have given us

two other names (based on the O.T. tetragrammaton) which rival the

Name of Jesus, both attempting to usurp the authority of the Name

above every name by claiming equality with or supremacy over the

Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Proposition 2: The names given by scholars (based on the Old Testament-YHWH)

are equal to or superior to the Name above every name--Jesus

Both propositions are mutually exclusive and both cannot be true. One has to be false.

Conclusion A:  The Scripture is wrong. The Name of Jesus is not above every name.

Conclusion B:  The scholars are wrong. The Name of Jesus is above every name.

As stated in the beginning of this study we make the faith claim that is presuppositional

to all other claims that the Bible in the original languages

is the complete and inerrant revelation of the Word of God to man. Based upon

this claim we must agree with the authority of Scripture and conclude that the

scholars are incorrect and that the Word of God is authoritative and true.

However if you do not hold to this faith claim and believe

that scholars are as authoritative or more so than the Scriptures you have the

option of  choosing A: The Word of God is incorrect. As you see this also is a faith

claim carrying with it its own presuppositional baggage: there is no God; if there is

we cannot know him; the Bible is from man not God; the Bible is full of errors;

there are many gods and many ways; the Bible is one of many books from God; etc.

This first syllogism has for the second proposition names derived from the original Hebrew

letters of the tetragrammaton – Yhvh.  These letters are of course Biblical.

The names which are constructed from them are not Biblical. They are man’s attempt

to make a name for God to replace the NAME which He has given to us in the Person of His Son,

the Lord Jesus Christ.

Here is another syllogism which stays within the pages of scripture for its two propositions

from which we can make a logical deduction.

Proposition 1:  Jesus said, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,

Baptizing them in the NAME of the Father and the Son and the

                          Holy Spirit…”   Matthew 28:19

Proposition 2:  Ten days later at Pentecost Peter said to them, “Repent and let each

One of you be baptized in the NAME of Jesus Christ,”  Acts 2:38

Claiming the authority and inerrancy of Scripture there is only one  Conclusion:

The NAME of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit ( our Triune God ) is

                                       The NAME of Jesus Christ.

Of course if you do not claim the authority and inerrancy of Scripture then you have

Other possible conclusions to select from such as:

1.         Peter and the disciples misunderstood Jesus’ last command to them.

2.         Peter was intentionally disobedient to  Jesus’ last command to the disciples.

3.         The Scriptures are in error and not reliable in this instance.   Etc.

Here is another referring to praise and thanksgiving to be given to the Name of God,

comparing Scriptures from the Old Testament with the New.

Scripture 1 ( OT ) :   Sing praise to the LORD you His Godly ones and give thanks to

                                    HIS HOLY NAME.   Psalm 30:4

I will praise the NAME of GOD with song and shall magnify

                                    HIM with thanksgiving.   Psalm 69:30

Scripture 2 ( NT ) :   Singing and making melody with your heart to the LORD.

Always giving thanks for all things in the NAME of our

                                    LORD JESUS CHRIST.  Ephesians 5:20

Conclusion :               The HOLY NAME of the LORD and the NAME of GOD in the

Old Testament is identified in the New Testament as the

NAME of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.

“Through Him, ( JESUS ) then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God

The fruit of lips that give thanks to His NAME.”   Hebrews 13:15

How then, you ask, do we handle the OT tetragrammaton?  We handle it just like the

Lord Jesus handled it and all of the New Testament authors handled it under the

inspiration of the Holy Spirit. To do otherwise would violate the doctrine that we have

a complete and inerrant revelation in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.

To handle it other than the way our Lord and the Holy Spirit handled it through the

Apostles and the first century church presumes:

1.   The First Person of the Godhead was not being totally forthcoming when He

spoke to us saying “This is my beloved Son, Hear ye Him.”

2.   The Second Person of the Godhead was not sinless because He deceived us

3.   The Third Person of the Godhead failed to inspire the writers of the NT

in this matter correctly, deceiving us again.

4.   The Churh for 1800 or so years had it wrong as it anxiously awaited further

revelation from modern scholars as to the real Name of God

5.   There was a conspiracy in the Godhead to keep the truth from us but they

were not successful thanks to man’s ingenuity.

6.   We cannot trust God when he says in the pages of Scripture:

“For whoever will call upon the NAME of the LORD will be saved.”  Joel 2:32

“That if you confess with your mouth JESUS as LORD you will be saved.” Rom 10:9

7.         We cannot be sure of our salvation because we cannot be sure of the NAME of

The LORD. We may be calling out to the wrong GOD:

“Save me , O GOD by Thy NAME”  Psalm 54:1

                                          WHAT   NAME,  LORD ?

This is the dilemma we find ourselves in when we forsake the revelation of GOD for the

revelation of man. How did Jesus and the apostles through the Holy Spirit handle

The OT Scriptures which contained the tetragrammaton when quoting in the NT?

Always and without exception throughout the pages of the New Testament they rendered it with

the title, LORD ( Kurios in Greek ), being faithful to the Greek translation of the Hebrew OT

called the Septuagint. Jesus quoted the Psalmist:

“The LORD said to my Lord, sit at my right hand until I put thine enemies beneath

                                                Thy Feet.”  Mark 12:36

In Hebrew the first LORD is the tetragrammaton and the second Lord is the Hebrew

Adonai, meaning Lord.   Jesus quoting in the New Testament Greek uses the same Greek word –

Kurios - to render both Hebrew terms. This is done throughout the NT

under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit without exception. If an apostle dared to conjure up another

name for the tetragrammaton to insert into the pages of Holy Scripture when quoting the OT he

was prevented by the Hand of God.

“But of the SON, He says, Thy Throne, O GOD, is forever and ever. And Thou LORD

in the beginning did lay the foundation of the earth and the heavens are the works of

                                               Thy Hands.”  Hebrews 1:8,10

“I will proclaim Thy NAME to my brethren.”  Psalm 22:22 and Heb 2:12

“And those who know Thy NAME will put their trust in you.” Ps. 9:10 and Heb 2:13

Can there be any doubt as to what NAME is being referred to in both the OT and NT?

“Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His NAME everyone who believes

In Him receives forgiveness of sins.”  Acts 10:43

What NAME has been proclaimed and preached for the last 2000 years for Salvation?

“And there is Salvation in no one else; For there is no other name under heaven given

among men by which we must be saved.”  Acts 4:12

What name did the Psalmist have in mind when he declared “Save me, O GOD, by

                                                    Thy NAME.”  Psalm 54:1

“Behold this is our GOD for whom we                   “For the Grace of GOD has appeared

have waited that He might save us.                       Bringing Salvation to all men…

This is the LORD for whom we have                    Looking for…the appearing of the

Waited. Let us rejoice and be glad                        Glory of our Great God and Savior

In His Salvation.”  Isaiah 25:9                               JESUS CHRIST.”  Titus 2:11,13

This is the NAME and the PERSON the Old Testament prophets eagerly waited for:

“O LORD, we have waited for thee eagerly.”  Isaiah 26:8   The New Testament reveals

the NAME and the PERSON of this LORD:  “For our citizenship is in heaven from which we

eagerly wait for a Savior, the LORD JESUS CHRIST.”  Philippians 3:20

“And there is Salvation in NO ONE ELSE; for there is NO OTHER NAME under

heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”   Acts 4:12

Equivalence of titles between the Old Testament and the New Testament points us to the one

PERSON and the one NAME of the one LORD and the one SAVIOR,

JESUS CHRIST.  The Holy Spirit accomplishes this through the rendering of the

tetragrammaton by the title LORD and then confirming this in the New Testament when its writers

under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit use the same title LORD when

quoting passages from the OT which contain the tetragrammaton.

If there is allowed another name or names to be introduced in to the Biblical text to handle the four

Hebrew letters of the tetragrammaton then we have Confusion:

1.         Teachers who claim the doctrine of Biblical inerrancy but in effect deny it by using extra-Biblical

(not in the Biblical text) names for Deity.

2.         The Body of Christ unsure of God’s NAME even though we are called by His NAME.

(“and My people who are called by My NAME humble

themselves and pray…”)  2 Chron. 7:14   also Isaiah 43:7

3.         The Body of Christ unsure of what name to call upon God in prayer. (“Our

Father who art in heaven, Hallowed (Holy) be Your NAME…”)

4.         The Body of Christ unsure about the accuracy and authority of the Bible since

many of its teachers claim extra-Biblical revelation as to God’s Name.

5.         The Glorious NAME of our LORD JESUS CHRIST is profaned in the Body

of Christ as usurpers to the Throne gain many followers.

“And My Holy NAME shall I make known in the midst of My people Israel;

And I shall not let My Holy NAME be profaned anymore. And the nations will

know that I AM the LORD, the HOLY ONE in Israel.”  Ezekiel 39:7

“And the LORD will be KING over all the earth. In that day there shall be one

LORD and His NAME one.”   Zechariah 14:9

What holy name has been profaned more than any, even being used as a curse word?

What is the NAME of the LORD and who is the HOLY ONE in Israel?

Who will be KING over all the earth and what is His NAME?

Who is the one LORD?  And what is His one NAME?

“Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in

his fists? Who has wrapped the waters in his garment? Who has established

all the ends of the earth?    What is His NAME and His SON’S NAME ?

                                                  Surely you know”?  Proverbs 30:4

“He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, that

He might fill all things…until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the

Knowledge of the SON of GOD…”  Ephesians 4:10,13

“Therefore also GOD highly exalted HIM and bestowed on HIM the NAME

which is above every name, that at the NAME of JESUS every knee will

bow of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth and

that every tongue should confess that JESUS CHRIST is LORD to the

Glory of GOD the Father.”  Philippians 2:9-11

Yes, we surely know His NAME and His Son’s NAME-- the one NAME for the

Triune Godhead as manifested in the Second Person of the Godhead—

                                      The LORD JESUS CHRIST.

“So that in all things GOD may be glorified through JESUS CHRIST, to whom belongs

the GLORY and DOMINION forever and ever. Amen.  1 Peter 4:11

The Father is glorified in the Son by the NAME which He has bestowed upon the Son:

“And whatever you ask in My NAME, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified

  in the Son.”  John 14:13

“I manifested Your NAME to the men You gave Me out of the world…While I was with

them, I was keeping them in Your NAME which You have given Me…and I have

made Your NAME known to them and will make it known.”  John 17:6,12,26

“Holy Father, keep them in Your NAME, the NAME which you have given Me.” 17:11

“Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be Your NAME…”  Matthew 6:9

“I have come in My Father’s NAME and you did not receive Me,,,”  John 5:43

The Father is accessed and glorified in the NAME and PERSON of the Son. John 14:13

The Holy Spirit, who proceeds from the Father, also bears witness to the SON. Jn 15:26

“He (Holy Spirit) shall glorify Me…All things that the Father has are Mine.”Jn 16:14

“We (Father and Son) will come to him and make our abode with him.” Jn 14:23  “The

Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My NAME will teach you all things.”Jn 14:26

Is the Holy Spirit ever called by a name?  Of course He is. He is called by the NAME of

the Father and the Son who come in the Person of the Holy Spirit to indwell believers.

“And now has been manifested to His saints to whom GOD willed to make known what is the riches

of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles which is CHRIST IN YOU, the Hope of Glory.”

Colossians 1:27    “CHRIST is all and IN ALL.”  Col 3:11

“Do you not recognize this about yourselves that JESUS CHRIST is IN YOU.”2Cor13:5

“You are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the SPIRIT of GOD dwells in you.

If anyone does not have the SPIRIT of CHRIST he does not belong to Him.” Rom 8:9

“That He would grant you …to be strengthened with power through His SPIRIT in the

inner man, so that CHRIST may dwell in your hearts through faith.” Eph. 3:16,17

“And do not grieve the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD, by whom you were sealed for the

Day of Redemption.”  Eph 4:30    “And if CHRIST is IN YOU though the body is dead

because of sin, yet the Spirit is alive because of righteousness.”  Rom 8:10

“For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the

provision of the SPIRIT of JESUS CHRIST.”  Philippians 1:19

Scripture makes it very obvious that the NAME of GOD as revealed and manifested in the

PERSON of the LORD JESUS CHRIST applies equally to the Third Person of the

Triune Godhead. He is called by the NAME of the Father and the Son who come in the

Person of the HOLY SPIRIT to indwell believers (John 14:23)—JESUS CHRIST.

ONE NAME FOR THE TRIUNE GOD, BEING ONE GOD

“Until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the SON of GOD.”

“For it was the Father’s good pleasure that all the fullness to dwell in HIM.” Col 1:19

“And the LORD will be King over all the earth. In that Day there shall be one LORD

and His NAME one.”  Zech 14:9

Do we have to wait until the LORD JESUS assumes the Throne and becomes the Great

King over all the earth before we acknowledge His NAME is above every name and that

To Him every knee will bow and every tongue confess that JESUS CHRIST is LORD to

The Glory of GOD the FATHER?

We as a people called by His NAME (Christians) know the answer to that question:

“For whoever will call upon the NAME of the LORD will be saved.” Acts 2:21;Joel 2:32

The OT and NT come together in harmony, both testifying that the LORD of the OT is the same

LORD of the NT in the PERSON and NAME of the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

The Old Testament, in fact, PERSONIFIES and gives PERSONHOOD to the NAME of

The LORD in several passages and makes a distinction between God and His NAME,

Giving us a hint of His Triune nature and exalting His NAME—The Second Person of

The Trinity – The LORD JESUS CHRIST:

“Let them praise Thy great and awesome NAME;  Holy is HE.”     Psalm 99;3

“Let them praise the NAME of the LORD; for HE commanded and they were created.”

                                                                                                                          Psalm 148:5

“They will sanctify My NAME. Indeed they will sanctify the HOLY ONE of Jacob and

will stand in awe of the GOD of Israel.”     Isaiah 29:23

“Therefore glorify the LORD in the east, the NAME of the LORD, the GOD of Israel.”

                                                                                                                           Isaiah 24:15

“Let the NAME of GOD be blessed forever; for Wisdom and Power belong to HIM.”

                                                                                                                            Daniel 2:20

“May the NAME of the GOD of Jacob set you securely on high.”    Psalm 20:1

“Behold the NAME of the LORD comes from a remote place; burning in His anger

dense His smoke; His lips filled with indignation and His tongue a consuming fire.”

                                                                                                                          Isaiah 30:27

“Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the NAME of the

LORD, the GOD of Israel.”            1 Kings 8:17

“My NAME shall be there to listen to the prayer which Thy servant shall pray toward

  this Place.”                                          1 Kings 8:29

“The Place in which the LORD your GOD shall choose for His NAME to dwell.”

                                                                                                            Deuteronomy 12:11

“For then I will give to the peoples purified lips that all of them may call on the

NAME of the LORD, to serve HIM shoulder to shoulder.”    Zephaniah 3:9

“So they will fear the NAME of the LORD from the west and HIS GLORY from the

rising of the sun; for  HE  will come like a rushing stream.”     Isaiah 59:19

“I will praise the NAME of GOD with song, and shall magnify HIM with song.”

                                                                                                                          Psalm 69:30

The NAME of GOD is presented as being a PERSON in many Old Testament passages.

The Lord’s NAME  listens, dwells, commands, creates, comes, receives praise and glory,

And sets us securely on high.

The NAME ( Ha-SHEM in Hebrew ) is the PERSON of the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

“Therefore glorify the LORD in the east, the NAME of the LORD, the GOD of Israel.”

Father, glorify Thy NAME…”John 12:28    “Father glorify Thy SON.”  John 17:1

“But of the SON He says, ‘Thy Throne, O GOD, is forever and ever…And Thou LORD

in the beginning did lay the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the works of

Thy Hands.”  Hebrews 1: 8,10.   The New Testament confirms the identity of the SON

as GOD and the LORD of creation. What is His NAME and His SON’S NAME? Yes,

surely we do know…The EXALTED NAME of our LORD JESUS CHRIST. “For God

highly EXALTED Him and bestowed on Him the NAME above every name.” Phil.2:9

“Let them praise the NAME of the LORD, for His NAME alone is EXALTED.” 148:13

“Make them remember that His NAME is EXALTED.”  Isaiah 12:4

“Sing praises to the NAME of the LORD, for He has done great things.” Isa 12:5 (Sept.)

“Sing praises to the LORD you His godly ones and give thanks to His HOLY NAME.”

                                                                                                                       Psalm 30:4

The New Testament makes it very clear what NAME we are to give thanks and praise.

“Singing and making melody with your heart to the LORD; Always giving thanks for

all things in the ( HOLY ) NAME of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.”  Eph. 5:20

“Blessed be the LORD GOD and blessed be        “So that in all things GOD may be

His GLORIOUS NAME forever. And may         GLORIFIED thru JESUS CHRIST

The whole earth be filled with His GLORY.        To whom belongs the GLORY and

Amen and Amen.”  Psalm 72:19                            DOMINION forever and ever. Amen”

                                                                                                                 1 Peter 4:11

Is there any doubt as to the NAME and  PERSON that Scripture tells us to

EXALT, PRAISE, GIVE THANKS, and GLORIFY?

“He who descended is Himself also He who ascended

far above all the heavens that He might fill all things…

Until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the

KNOWLEDGE OF THE SON OF GOD.”      Eph 4:10,13

For the earth will be full of the KNOWLEDGE of the LORD as the waters cover the sea

                                                                                                                      Isaiah 9:11

The Psalmist exclaims “and may the whole earth be filled with His GLORY”  Ps. 72:19

Isaiah prophesies “the earth will be full of the KNOWLEDGE of the LORD”  Isa.  9:11

Peter, in the NT, pulls the two concepts together -- the KNOWLEDGE of the LORD

And His GLORY into one PERSON – The LORD JESUS CHRIST.

“Grow in the Grace and KNOWLEDGE of our LORD and Savior JESUS CHRIST.

To HIM be the GLORY both now and forever.”    2 Peter 3:18

Paul does also, in the Power of the Holy Spirit :“For the GOD who said ‘Light shall shine out of

darkness’  is the ONE who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the

KNOWLEDGE of the GLORY of GOD in the face (PERSON) of CHRIST.” 2 Cor 4:6

The KNOWLEDGE of the GLORY of GOD in the PERSON of CHRIST

In whom are hidden all the treasures of WISDOM and KNOWLEDGE.

                                                                                                        Col. 2:3

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the KNOWLEDGE of GOD, even

JESUS our LORD.                             2 Peter 1:2

For the GRACE of GOD has appeared bringing Salvation to all men……

Looking for the BLESSED HOPE, even the appearing of the

GLORY of our GREAT GOD and SAVIOR, CHRIST JESUS.

                                                                                                            Titus 2:11,13

In these few passages of the NT we get a small sample of the inexhaustible titles of our

GLORIOUS LORD JESUS CHRIST: He is the GLORY of GOD

He is the KNOWLEDGE of GOD

He is the WISDOM of GOD

He is the GRACE of GOD

He is the SALVATION of GOD

                                                                   He is our BLESSED HOPE

                                                                   He is our LORD

He is our GREAT GOD and SAVIOR

Isaiah declares of this ONE: “Behold! This is our GOD for whom we have

Waited that He might save us. This is the LORD

For whom we have waited. Let us rejoice and

Be glad in His SALVATION.       Isaiah 25:9

Again Isaiah declares of HIM: “Is it not I, the LORD? And there is no other

GOD besides Me, a Righteous GOD and a

SAVIOR. There is none except Me.”  Isa. 45:21

Again from the prophet Isaiah: “For I Am the LORD your GOD, the HOLY

ONE of Israel, your SAVIOR…Before Me

There was no GOD formed and there will be

None after Me. I, even I, am the LORD and

There is no SAVIOR besides Me.”Isa43:3,10,11

And who, O Christian, (“everyone who is called by My NAME and whom I have

Created for My GLORY, whom I have formed…”Isa43:7)

And who, O Christian, is our LORD, our GOD, our SAVIOR, and to whom is GLORY

Forever and ever?  What is His NAME and His Son’s NAME?

Surely you KNOW.   Yes, we surely Know. For in Him are hidden all the treasures of

WISDOM and KNOWLEDGE: Our LORD JESUS CHRIST.

“By the Righteousness of our GOD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.” 2Pet1:1

Old and New Testaments not only come into harmony with shared and equivalent titles

for  the NAME and PERSON of our one LORD and SAVIOR,  JESUS CHRIST, but also come into

harmony with shared and equivalent concepts and actions of our LORD.

A.

 Old Testament:

“Though all peoples walk each in the name of his god, as for us, we will WALK in the

NAME of the LORD our GOD forever and ever.”   Micah 4:5

                                                                                                                       1 John 5:20

E.

Old Testament:

                                                                                                              Deuteronomy 6:13

New Testament:

“And behold JESUS met and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of

HIS feet and WORSHIPPED HIM               Matthew 28:9

In the following verses from the OT and NT, note the threefold parallelism in both OT and NT

verses which reflects our Triune GOD; Father, Son, Holy Spirit and reveals to

us the exalted NAME in the Second Person of the Trinity “for it was the Father’s good pleasure

for all the fullness to dwell in HIM.” Col 1:19.  And in HIM you have been made complete and HE is

the head over all rule and authority.” Col 2:9

“Blessed be the LORD GOD                        “So that in all things GOD may be

and blessed be His Glorious NAME             Glorified through JESUS CHRIST

forever. And may the whole earth                        to whom belongs the Dominion and

be filled with His GLORY. Amen                      GLORY forever and ever. Amen

                                          Psalm 72:19                                                         1 Peter 4:11

“Sing to the LORD.                                               “In order that the NAME of our

Bless His NAME.                                                   LORD JESUS CHRIST

Tell of His GLORY.                                               may be GLORIFIED in you.

                  Psalm 96:2,3                                                                  2 Thessalonians 1:12

“Sing praise to the LORD                          “Singing with your heart to the LORD

you His Godly ones and                                Always giving thanks for all things in  the

give thanks to His Holy NAME            NAME of our LORD JESUS CHRIST

                          Psalm 30:4                                                               Ephesians 5:20

The Old and New Testaments provide an amazing abundance of parallel passages with

shared and equivalent concepts which reveal the NAME of our one LORD and GOD

Here are a few more:

“And it will come about that whoever                     “That if you confess with your mouth

will call upon the NAME of the LORD             JESUS as LORD

will be delivered.”     Joel 2:32                                   you shall be saved.”   Romans 10:9

“Then he (Abraham) believed                                   “Even we have believed

in the LORD                                                              in CHRIST JESUS

And He reckoned it to him as righteousness.”        That we may be justified by faith…”

                                                   Genesis 15:6                                            Galatians 2:16

“That to Me ( GOD )                                                  “That at the NAME of JESUS

every knee will bow and                                               every knee will bow and

every tongue will swear.”                                             every tongue will confess.”

                       Isaiah 45:23                                                                    Philippians 2:10

“Thou,(O LORD), art The Same                           “JESUS CHRIST, The Same

and Thy years will not come to                                     yesterday, today and

an end.”               Psalm 102:27                                     forever.”    Hebrews 13:8

“The KING of Israel, the LORD,                       “Rabbi,   you are the SON of GOD,

is in your midst.”                                               You are the KING of Israel.”

                                    Zephaniah 3:15                                                             John 12:13

The preceding verses bring us back to the shared and equivalent titles of the Old and New Testaments.

In the Old we see The KING of Israel equated with the LORD. In the

New we see the KING of Israel equated with the SON of GOD. Logically, therefore,

we see that the LORD is equated with the SON of GOD. Mathematically speaking:

A=King of Israel;  B=LORD;  C=Son of God;     If A=B, and A=C, then B=C.

The LORD of the OT is the SON of GOD of the NT by the identification of each with

The shared and equivalent title, KING of Israel. We see the same identification made

of the LORD and the SON in the book of Psalms chapter 2, verses 11 and 12.

“Worship the LORD with reverence, and rejoice with trembling.

Do homage to the SON, lest He become angry and you perish in the way.

For His wrath may soon be kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.”

“For GOD has not destined us for wrath but for obtaining salvation by our LORD

                                                        JESUS CHRIST                      1 Thessalonians 5:9

“Who is this KING of GLORY?                           “For if they had understood it they

The LORD of Hosts, He is the                                   would not have crucified the

KING of GLORY.”                                                      LORD of GLORY.”

                        Psalm 24:10                                                                      1 Corinthians 2:2

“Thus says the LORD, the KING of Israel and His REDEEMER, the LORD of Hosts:

I am the First and I am the Last , and there is no GOD besides Me.    ”Isaiah 44:6

In this amazing verse we see the Godhead making a distinction within itself giving us a

glimpse of the Triune nature of GOD and then in the same verse bringing the

Triune nature back to oneness and unity by the fourth phrase:

“there is no GOD besides Me.”

In the first three phrases we have five different titles for GOD which the Scriptures of

the Old and New Testaments point to the PERSON of the LORD JESUS CHRIST:

                1.   LORD =  KING of Israel  =   Jesus Christ

                2.   His Redeemer  =  LORD of Hosts  =  Jesus Christ

                3.   I am The First and the Last  =  Jesus Christ

The threefold nature of GOD is given to us in the first three phrases and the unity and oneness of

GOD is given to us in the fourth phrase:

ONE NAME for the TRIUNE GOD BEING ONE GOD

Moses in his Song to Israel

“For I proclaim the NAME of the LORD; Ascribe greatness to our GOD the ROCK.”

And speaking of Israel: Then he forsook GOD… and scorned the ROCK

of his Salvation.”              Deuteronomy 32: 3,15

          “For they were drinking from a spiritual ROCK which followed them;

and the ROCK was CHRIST.”       1 Corinthians 10:4

“I will give thanks to THY NAME, O LORD, for IT is good.

For HE has delivered me from all trouble.”        Psalm 54: 6,7

In this verse we see the twofold nature of the OT concept of The NAME (Ha-Shem )

when referencing the LORD or GOD

The first phrase communicates the actual idea of a name as a designation of a person.

It would answer the question, “What is IT?”

The second phrase communicates the idea of the Person to whom the name designates.

It would answer the question, “ Who is HE?”

The New Testament answers both questions by giving us the NAME and the PERSON:

“Always giving thanks for all things in the NAME of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.”

                                                        Ephesians 5:20

Who, O Christian (we who are called by His Name), are we to give thanks to and what

Is His NAME and His SON’S NAME?  Surely we do know.

“Until we all attain to the unity of the faith and the Knowledge of the SON of GOD.”

“For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness (of Deity) to dwell in HIM.”

“He who descended is Himself also He who ascended …that HE might fill all things.”

“Let them praise Thy great and awesome NAME; Holy is HE.” Psalm 99:3

“Let them praise the NAME of the LORD, for HE commanded and they

                                          were created.”     Psalm148:5

“But of the SON He says, ‘Thy throne, O GOD, is forever and ever…And thou LORD,

in the beginning did lay the foundation of the earth and the heavens are the works of

                                                             Thy Hands.’”  Hebrews 1:8,10

“For by HIM ( the SON ) all things were created both in the heavens and on earth,

visible and invisible…all things have been created by HIM and for HIM.”

                                                              Colossians 1:16

In the OT the NAME of the LORD commands creation. In the NT the SON creates

all things. Thus we have another shared and equivalent title -Creator- between the

testaments giving us the identity of the NAME of the LORD as the SON, whom we

know as our LORD JESUS CHRIST.

“O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is             “And seated HIM at His right hand far

Thy NAME in all the earth, who has               above all rule and authority…and every

Set Thy GLORY above the heavens.”             name that is named.” Ephesians 1:20,21

Psalm 8:1                    “As HE has inherited a more excellent NAME”

                                                                                                          Hebrews 1:4

The GLORY of the LORD receives PERSONHOOD just as the NAME of the LORD.

Comparing the OT scripture with the NT we see that His GLORY in Psalm 8:1 is

Set above the heavens. And in the NT the PERSON of the LORD JESUS CHRIST is

Seated above all rule and authority. We know in the NT that JESUS CHRIST is declared to be

the GLORY of GOD:

“For GOD who said, ‘Light shall shine out of darkness’, is the ONE who has shone

in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the GLORY of GOD in the

PERSON of CHRIST.”  2 Corinthians 4:6

Having the revelation from the NT that JESUS CHRIST is the GLORY of GOD we

can look at certain OT passages in a new light, for example:

“And behold the GLORY of the LORD was standing there…and HE spoke with me”

                                                                                                        Ezekiel 3:23,24

“Then the GLORY of the GOD of Israel went up from the cherub…and HE called to

the man…and the LORD said to him…”      Ezekiel 9:3,4

OT: “And the GLORY of the LORD shall appear; and all flesh shall see the

the SALVATION of GOD.”  Isaiah 40:5    Septuagint

NT: “Looking for the Blessed Hope and the appearing of the GLORY of

Our Great GOD and SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST.”        Titus 2:13

The NT offers this amazing parallel verse identifying the GLORY of the LORD and

The SALVATION of GOD as the PERSON of the LORD CHRIST JESUS.

“For there is Salvation in no else; for there is no other name under heaven given

among men by which we must be saved.”    Acts 4:12

“JESUS CHRIST, the SAME  yesterday, today, and forever.”   Hebrews 13:8

But Thou O LORD, dost abide forever and Thy NAME to all generations.” Ps 102:12

“I will cause Thy NAME to be remembered in all generations,”   Psalm 45:17

“That men may tell of the NAME of the LORD in Zion and His praise in Jerusalem.”

                                                                                                                  Psalm 102:21

   And of the Apostle Paul:

“And how at Damascus he had spoken out boldly in the NAME of JESUS. And he was

with them moving freely in Jerusalem speaking out boldly in the NAME of the LORD.

                                                                                                                 Acts 9:27,28

The NT leaves us no doubt as to the NAME of the LORD. We should take the advice

Of the Psalmist, “I will tell of Thy NAME to my brethren.”(22:22), as did the Apostle

Paul immediately after his conversion. No doubt the answer to his question “Who are

you LORD?” was still ringing in his ears: “I am JESUS whom you are persecuting.”

“Go , therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the NAME of

the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19  And he (Peter) ordered

them to be baptized in the NAME of JESUS CHRIST.”  Acts 10:48

“Help us, O GOD of our Salvation, for the GLORY of Thy NAME and

Deliver us and forgive us our sins for Thy NAME’S  sake.”

                                               Psalm 79:9

“For Thy NAME’S sake, O LORD, pardon my iniquity, for it is great.”

                                               Psalm 25:11

“I am writing to you little children because your sins are forgiven you for

                                            His NAME’S sake                        1 John 2:12

“And those who know Thy NAME will put their trust in Thee.”

                                               Psalm 9:10

“And this is His commandment that we believe in the NAME of His SON

                                              JESUS CHRIST.”                        1 John 3:23

“Of HIM all the prophets bear witness that through His NAME

everyone who believes in HIM receives forgiveness of sins.”

                                                   Acts 10:43

“Then he (Abraham) believed in the             Even we have believed in CHRIST JESUS

LORD and HE reckoned it to him                that we may be justified by faith in

As Righteousness.” Genesis 15:6                  CHRIST.”                 Galatians 2:16

“The Righteousness of GOD has been manifested… through faith in JESUS CHRIST

for all those who believe.”                          Romans 3;21,22

“For although Thou wast angry with me               “ For GOD has not destined us for

Thine anger has turned away…for the                   wrath, but for obtaining

LORD GOD is my strength and song and               SALVATION by our

HE has become my SALVATION.”                         LORD JESUS CHRIST.”

                                            Isaiah 12:1,2                                             1 Thessalonians 5:9

“Turn to ME and be SAVED all the ends          “That at the NAME of JESUS every

of the earth; for I am GOD and there is            knee will bow and every tongue confess

no other. I have sworn by Myself….                  “Being made so much better than the

That to ME every knee will bow, every               angels as HE has inherited a more

tongue swear.”     Isaiah 45:22,23                        excellent NAME.” Phil 2:10; Heb 1:4

“And let all the angels of GOD WORSHIP HIM.” (JESUS)

                                                       Hebrews 1:6

“You shall fear only the LORD your GOD. And you shall WORSHIP HIM

                                                  Deuteronomy 6:13

“So that in all things GOD may be Glorified through JESUS CHRIST,

to whom belongs the GLORY and DOMINION forever and ever. Amen.”

                                                     1 Peter 4:11

“For from the rising of the sun, even to its setting, My NAME will be

great among the nations…for I am a great KING says the LORD of

Hosts, and My NAME is feared among the nations.” Malachi 1:11,14

“If you do not listen, and you do not take it to heart to give honor to My NAME,

says the LORD of Hosts, then I will send the curse upon you, and I will curse your

blessings ; and indeed, I have cursed them because you are not taking it to heart.”

                                                                                                                          Malachi 2:2

“But for you who fear My NAME the Sun of Righteousness will rise, and

Healing shall be in HIS wings.”         Malachi 4:2  (Septuagint)

“And the LORD will be KING over all the earth. In that day there shall be

One LORD and His NAME One.”         Zechariah 14:9

“Then it will come about that any who are left of all the nations that went against

Jerusalem, will go up from year to year to worship the KING, the LORD of Hosts…”

                                                                                              Zechariah 14:16

“For then I will give to the people purified lips, that all of them may call on

The NAME of the LORD, to serve HIM shoulder to shoulder.”

                                                                                           Zephaniah 3:9

By this time it is hoped that the reader will know with certainty to whom the prophets

refer and His NAME, to which the above titles refer: “KING”, “LORD of HOSTS”,

“LORD”, and “NAME of the LORD”, to which  can be added an almost inexhaustible

supply from the Holy Scriptures. By this time in the future to which the above

Scriptures reference (the beginning of the millennium of CHRIST’S REIGN on earth)

it is most certain that we will have arrived at the “unity of the Faith and the

KNOWLEDGE of the SON of GOD.” Eph. 4:13 –- The LORD JESUS CHRIST

The Body of Christ (Christians) must forsake the golden calves of Jeroboam to which

he said, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem; Behold,  your gods, O Israel,

that brought you up from the land of Egypt.” 1 Kings 12:28

“Nevertheless, (at the Passover of Hezekiah) some men of Asher, Manasseh, and

Zebulun humbled  themselves and came to Jerusalem.”  2 Chronicles 30:11

“But I will leave among you a humble and lowly people, and they will take

refuge in the NAME of the LORD.”  Zephaniah 3:12

“The LORD takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with Salvation.”

                                                                                                                   Psalm 149:4

“And if My people who are called by My NAME will humble themselves

and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from

heaven, will forgive their sins, and will heal their land.”     2 Chronicles 7:14

The people of GOD who are called by His NAME (CHRISTIANS) – CHRIST-in-us-

must humble themselves as did some of the men of Israel when they returned to

Jerusalem to worship the LORD at His chosen place of worship. “I have chosen

Jerusalem that My NAME might be there and…a house for the NAME of the LORD,

The GOD of ISRAEL.” ( The LORD JESUS CHRIST )  2 Chronicles 6:6,7

“You shall worship before one altar and on it you shall burn incense.”

                                                                                                          2 Chronicles 32:12

We must humble ourselves and return to the one altar where our prayers are received

and accepted by our heavenly Father—the Glorious NAME of our Lord Jesus Christ.

As for seeking His Face, GOD only presents us with one FACE as He does one NAME.

“For THE GOD who commanded light to shine out of darkness has shone in our hearts

to give us the light of the GLORY of GOD in the FACE of JESUS CHRIST.”

                                                                                                         2 Corinthians 4:6

When we return to the LORD JESUS CHRIST and turn from the altars of Jeroboam

 where he told Israel to worship saying,” It is too much for you  to go up to Jerusalem;

Behold your gods, O Israel, that brought you up from the land of Egypt.”1 Kings 12:28

When we turn from these usurpers to the throne that seek to replace the true NAME of

GOD with high and exalted altars constructed and crafted by men which appeal to the

pride and self-sufficiency of man, GOD will begin to heal us and our land.

Otherwise:

“If you do not listen and if you do not take it to heart to give honor to My NAME,

says the LORD of Hosts, then I will send the curse upon you and I will curse your

blessings and, indeed, I have cursed them already because you are not taking it

  to heart.”     Malachi 2:2

“Blessed be the LORD GOD and blessed be His GLORIOUS NAME forever.

And may the whole earth be filled with His GLORY. Amen and Amen.  Psalm 72:19

“And whatever you do, do it all in the NAME of the LORD JESUS, giving thanks

through Him to GOD the Father.”    Colossians 3:17

“So that in all things GOD may be Glorified through JESUS CHRIST, to whom

belongs the GLORY and DOMINION,  Forever and ever. Amen.  1 Peter 4:11

“He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, that

He might fill all things. And He gave some as apostles and some as prophets and

some as evangelists and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints

for the work of service to the building up of the body of CHRIST until we all attain

to the UNITY of the FAITH and the KNOWLEDGE of the SON of GOD…”

“No Man Has Seen GOD at anytime; The only begotten GOD (The SON)

who is in the bosom of the Father, HE has revealed (made known) HIM.”

                                                                                                           John 1:18

Whatever there is to know about GOD the answer is in the SON of GOD.

“For in HIM all the fullness of DEITY dwells in bodily form.”  Colossians 2:9

“For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in HIM.”  Col 1:19

“In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”  Colossians 2:3

    Another small exercise in logic:

No man has seen God ( the Father ) at anytime;  John 1:18   (God is Spirit)

              Who then appeared to the OT patriarchs and prophets claiming to be God;

The LORD;  God Almighty; The Everlasting God; The God of

                        Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; The Lord; The Name of the LORD;

The Angel of the LORD;  I AM who I AM;  Judge of all the earth?

If you believe the Scripture, it was not GOD the FATHER but…

The only begotten GOD (the SON ) who is in the bosom of the Father, HE has

                                                   Made known and revealed HIM.

“If you had known ME you would know MY FATHER also; from now on you know

HIM and have seen HIM….He who has seen ME has seen the FATHER.” Jn.14:7,9

     JESUS told the religious leaders of HIS Day: “You know neither Me nor My Father;

If you knew Me you would know My Father also.”  John 8:19

JESUS makes known His identity to them saying, “for unless you believe that I AM,

You shall die in your sins.”  John 8:24

JESUS confirms His identity to their astonishment and unbelief: “Truly, Truly, I say

unto you, Before Abraham was born,  I AM.   John 8:58

Does this claim still astonish religious leaders of this day leaving them in unbelief?

It would appear so. They may not have literal stones to throw at HIM but they cast

stones of doubt and unbelief by the multiplied thousands in their written and

spoken words denying that JESUS CHRIST is THE LORD of both Testaments,

that is, the complete and inerrant WORD of GOD.

“In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with GOD and

the WORD was GOD.”                          John 1:1

“All things came into being by HIM, and apart from HIM nothing came

into being that has come onto being.”                  John 1:3

“And the WORD became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld HIS

GLORY, GLORY as of the only begotten of the FATHER…”

                                                                                                               John 1:14

The Christian confession “that if you confess with your mouth JESUS is LORD,

takes on a whole new dimension of meaning when we realize that the first believers

in JESUS were confessing that HE was ,in fact, the LORD GOD, the GOD of

Israel, the Everlasting GOD, the I AM of the Hebrew Scriptures.

“For whoever will call upon the NAME of the LORD will be saved.”

So say both Old and New Testaments:  Joel 2:32 and Romans 10:13

“And no one can say JESUS is LORD except by the HOLY SPIRIT.”

                                                                                          1 Corinthians 12:3

Only the Holy Spirit can inspire one to confess that JESUS is LORD with the

same meaning the early believers invested into the title LORD from Scripture.

Can you say JESUS is the LORD GOD, the I AM of the Old Testament?

JESUS told the religious leaders of His day:

“For unless you believe that I AM, you will die in your sins.”

“When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM.”

“Truly, truly, I say unto you, before Abraham was born, I AM.”

                                                                                                                  John 8:24,28,58

No less than 20 times in the Gospel of John did JESUS use the title I AM,

(Greek “ego eimi”) in speaking of Himself leaving no doubt as to whom He

claimed to be. The Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well was the first to hear

JESUS’ claim to be “ego eimi”, the I AM, the GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

“Jesus said to her, I AM the One who speaks to you.” John 4:26.  Echoing

Isaiah 52:6:  “I AM the One who is speaking, Here I AM.”

“Therefore My people shall know My NAME; therefore in that day

I AM the One who is speaking, Here I AM.”    Isaiah 52:6

And immediately after this verse in Isaiah we are introduced to the GOSPEL:

“How lovely on the mountains are the feet of HIM who brings Good News

Who announces Peace and brings Good News of Happiness

Who announces SALVATION, saying to Zion,

                                                Your GOD Reigns!”     Isaiah 52:7

“Thus HE will sprinkle many nations. Kings will shut their mouths on account

of HIM; for what had not been told them they will see, and what they had not

heard they will understand.” Isaiah 52:15      And so we are introduced to

Isaiah chapter 53, the great prophetic picture of the SON of GOD in the OT.

Do you know HIS NAME, the LORD GOD, the I AM, of the Old Testament?

He said His people will know His NAME, we who are called by His NAME.

“What is HIS NAME and HIS SON’S NAME? Surely you know.” Proverbs 30:4

Yes, we surely know the one NAME of the Triune Godhead as manifested in the

Second Person of the Godhead, the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

So that in all things GOD may be Glorified through JESUS CHRIST,

To whom belongs the GLORY and DOMINION forever and ever.

                                                           Amen.”                                    1 Peter 4:11

                         “For a child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us;

                               And the government will rest upon His shoulders;

And His NAME shall be called

Wonderful Counselor   Mighty God   Eternal Father   Prince of Peace

And of the increase of His Dominion and Peace there will be no end.”

                                                             Isaiah   9:6

ONE NAME for the TRIUNE GOD, BEING ONE GOD

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the

  NAME

                               of the Father               Eternal Father

and the Son                Prince of Peace

and the Holy Spirit               Wonderful Counselor

                                 Matt. 28:19                           Isaiah 9:6

Our Triune God is also the MIGHTY GOD reminding us He is ONE.

“And the LORD will be King over all the earth; in that Day there will be

ONE LORD and His NAME ONE.”

                                                 Zechariah 14:9

                                       The LORD JESUS CHRIST

“And it will come about that any who are left of all the nations that went against

Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship

THE KING, THE LORD OF HOSTS

                                                  Zechariah 14:6

“And on His robe and on His thigh He has a Name written,

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS

                                                         Revelation 19:16

“Being made so much better than the angels as He has INHERITED a more

                                           Excellent    NAME    than they…

And let all the angels of God worship Him.”          Hebrews 1:4,6

“That at the NAME of JESUS every knee should bow, of those who are

in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue

should confess that JESUS CHRIST is LORD to the Glory of God the

    Father.”   Philippians 2:10,11

“He ( Holy Spirit ) shall glorify Me; for He shall take of Mine and shall disclose

it to you. ALL THINGS THE FATHER HAS ARE MINE”  John 16:14,15

“Holy Father, keep them in Your NAME which YOU have GIVEN  Me.” Jn. 17:11

The SON has inherited the FATHER’S NAME given to Him by the Father.

        Thus, the SON can say: “All things the Father has are mine.” John 16:15;

“I have come in my FATHER’S NAME, and you did not receive Me.” Jn 5:43

“I manifested YOUR NAME to the men you gave ME out of the world.”

“While I was with them I kept them in YOUR NAME which You gave Me.”

“And I have made YOUR NAME known to them and will make it known.”

                                                       John 17:6,12,26

“And whatever you ask in MY NAME, that will I do, that

THE FATHER MAY BE GLORIFIED IN THE SON”

                                                         John 14:13

“If anyone loves Me he will keep My Word and My Father will love him and

WE WILL COME TO HIM AND MAKE OUR ABODE WITH HIM”

                                                         John 14:23

“Do you not recognize this about yourselves that JESUS CHRIST is in you”

                                                          2 Cor 13:5

“You are not in the flesh but in the Spirit if indeed the Spirit of God is in you”

                                                         Romans 8:9

“And if CHRIST is in you the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is alive…”

                                                         Romans 8:10

The Father and the Son come in the Person of the Holy Spirit in the

                                             NAME of JESUS CHRIST

After the resurrection, Jesus commands His disciples to baptize all nations in the

NAME of the FATHER and the SON and the HOLY SPIRIT

Throughout the book of Acts all believers are baptized in the

                                             NAME of JESUS CHRIST

ONE NAME FOR THE TRIUNE GOD, BEING ONE GOD

Though the tetragrammaton (YHVH) is correctly rendered LORD by the LORD

Himself and the New Testament authors under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit

when QUOTING verses from the OT which contained the tetragrammaton,

THERE IS A HINT OF THE NAME OF JESUS (JOSHUA) IN THE YHVH,

AND MAY IN FACT BE A SCRIBAL ABBREVIATION OF JOSHUA

                                    CALLED A “NOMINA SACRA”.

The first three letters of the name of Joshua (Yehoshua in the Hebrew) are the same

first three letters of the name yhvh: “yod”, “he”, “vav” used as a vowel “o”.

The final “he” (H) then could be used to represent God (Elohim) or the

Spirit of God (Ruach Elohim) to distinguish from the man Joshua.

The Talmud, rabbinical redactions of the oral traditions which interpreted and

applied the Torah, uses the single letter “he” (H) when writing “God”.

The Talmud describes the last letter of the tetragrammaton “he” as the “Shekhinah”.

“The “Shekhinah” is a Talmudic concept representing God’s dwelling and

Immanence in the created world.”  (Jewish Virtual Library)

Who then is God’s immanence and dwelling place if not His Son, the Messiah

Thus we have Joshua (YHV)  +  Messiah (H)  =  JESUS CHRIST = YHVH

The idea, though speculative, that the tetragrammaton is a “Nomina Sacra” or

scribal abbreviation of the Divine Name seems to be more justified than the many

inconclusive and uncertain attempts at pronunciation of this Name to which there

is no agreement in the body of Christ and to which there is much confusion.

The “Nomina Sacra” hypothesis provides an explanatory framework in which

Paradoxes are reconciled, Problems resolved, and hard Questions answered.

1.         Does the Triune God have 3 Names, one for each Person?

2.         Is the tetragrammaton the Name of the Father and not the Son?

3.         Can we be saved by calling out to one of its many pronunciations?

4.         Is the NT correct asserting that Jesus is the Name above every name?

5.         Is the NT correct asserting there is salvation in no other name?

6.         Is the NT correct asserting that Jesus inherited His Name?

7.         Did the Father give Him a Name which was above His own Name?

8.         Did the Father give His own Name to the Son? “Father glorify Thy Name”

9.         Did Jesus tell the Truth?  “All things the Father has are Mine.”

10.       What Name did Jesus manifest and make known to His disciples?

11.       What Name does He mean when He says “I manifested THY NAME”?

12.       “What is His Name and His Son’s Name if you can tell”? Prov. 30:4

13.       Does God have in mind two Names or One in Proverbs and Revelation?

14.       “Are there two Names written on the foreheads of the 144,000 or One?

15.       If He has two Names why is the Name of the Lord/God always singular?

16.       What about being baptized in the Name of the Father, Son and H.S.?

17.       Did Peter have it wrong when he baptized in the Name of Jesus?

18.       By what Name, then, is the Holy Spirit called if not Jesus?

19.       Do you not recognize this about yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you?

20.       Does not the Father and the Son come in the Person of the Holy Spirit?

21.       Is not everything in the church done in the Name of Jesus Christ?

22.       Where is the name that would usurp the authority of the Name of Jesus?

Jesus said “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and earth”.

Because He has inherited and been given a NAME (by His Father) which is

                                        ABOVE EVERY NAME.

“That at the NAME of JESUS every knee will bow and every tongue confess

That JESUS CHRIST is LORD to the GLORY of GOD the FATHER.”

                                          Philippians 2:10,11

“No man has seen God (the Father) at anytime; the only begotten God (the Son)

who is in the bosom of the Father, He has revealed Him.”  John 1:18

23. Who then made the appearances in the OT as GOD Almighty, LORD GOD,

GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the I AM that IAM, Word of GOD, etc?

24.       Did Jesus lie saying, “If you know Me you know My Father also; from now

On you know Him and have seen Him.”  John 14:7

“For The GOD who commanded light to shine out of darkness has shone in our

hearts to give us the light of the Glory of God in the Person of Jesus Christ.”

                                                             2 Corinthians 4:6

If you accept the premise as revealed in scripture that the Father has given His own

NAME to His Son and thereby receives Glory from His Son (“Holy Father keep

them in YOUR NAME, the NAME which You have given ME” John 17:11),

it is not so much a leap of faith but a logical inference that the “YHVH”

is a “Nomina Sacra” combining an abbreviation of a man’s name,

                 Yehoshua (Joshua) – Y(yod)  H(he)  V(vav used as the vowel “o”) and

The abbreviation for Elohim (God) – H(he) as the final letter, thus,

YHV (Joshua)  plus  H (God)  =   YHVH   or God combining with Man

Could this be a veiled prophecy and word picture of God becoming Man in the

Person of His Son the LORD JESUS CHRIST

“For until this very day at the reading of the Old Covenant the same Veil

remains unlifted, because it is removed in CHRIST…but whenever a man

turns to the LORD the Veil is taken away.”

                                                 2 Corinthians 3:14,16

“Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another and the LORD gave

attention and heard, and a book of remembrance was written before Him

for those who fear the LORD and who esteem (reverence) His NAME.

And they will be Mine, says the LORD of Hosts, on the day I prepare My own

Possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.”

                                                       Malachi 3:16,17

“For from the rising of the sun even to its setting, My NAME will be great among

the nations, and in every place incense is going to be offered to My NAME, and

and a grain offering that is pure; for My NAME will be great among the nations,

says the LORD of Hosts.”    Malachi 1:11

                                         BLESSED BE THE NAME

                                             OF THE LORD

FROM THIS TIME FORTH AND FOREVER

FROM THE RISING OF THE SUN TO ITS SETTING

                                   THE NAME OF THE LORD

                                         IS TO BE PRAISED

                                                        Psalm 113:2,3

AS THE BODY OF CHRIST AND THOSE WHO ARE CALLED BY HIS NAME

LET US MAKE CERTAIN WE ARE BLESSING AND PRAISING

THE RIGHT NAME – THE NAME ABOVE EVERY NAME –

                              OUR GLORIOUS LORD JESUS CHRIST

“For,  WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD THAT HE SHOULD

INSTRUCT HIM?  But we have the MIND of CHRIST.”   1 Cor. 2:16

The NT quotes the OT ( Isaiah 40:13 in the Septuagint) equating the Mind of the

LORD with the Mind of CHRIST.  Mind of YHVH = Mind of CHRIST.

Thus says the LORD:  “ I will return to Zion and dwell in the midst of Jerusalem.”

                                                      Zechariah 8:3

Rejoice greatly O Daughter of Zion!  Shout O Daughter of Jerusalem!

Behold your KING is coming to you!

Question:  Who is this LORD (YHVH) who will return to Zion and

Who is this KING who is coming to Jerusalem?

Answer:  He is just and brings salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey,

A colt, the foal of a donkey.

                                                      Zechariah 9:9

Then they brought him(a colt) to JESUS and they threw their clothes on the colt

And they set JESUS on him …. And they began to rejoice and praise God, saying,

“Blessed is the KING who comes in the NAME of the LORD!”

                                                   Luke 19:35,37,38

Yes JESUS is the long awaited LORD and KING

And it will be said in that day: Behold this is our GOD; we have waited for Him

                                                 And He will save us

This is the LORD; we have waited for Him

We will be glad and rejoice in His Salvation!”

                                                         Isaiah 25”9

O LORD we have waited for you; the desire of our soul is for your NAME

                                                         Isaiah 26:8

For there is no other NAME … by which we must be saved.

There is Salvation in no one else.

                                                           Acts 4:12

For our citizenship is in heaven from which we eagerly await a Savior.

                                            The LORD JESUS CHRIST

                                                       Philippians 3:20

Who shall appear a second time for Salvation to those who eagerly await Him.

                                                          Hebrews 9:28

Additional Notes on The Name (HaShem) = The Messiah

When you understand that The Name ( HaShem ) is a designation or title for

The person of the LORD himself and does not simply refer to another either

Undisclosed or known designation then you can understand the double use

Of Name when referencing the LORD.  Many Old Testament passages

Become clear when we see The Name as a title or designation of the coming

Messiah or Christ. Thus The Name is synonymous with the Messiah.

Here is one famous but confusing verse that becomes perfectly clear when

When you understand the Name as the title for the coming Messiah and

So when you read Name you also can read Messiah making sense out of

               A troublesome passage:  1 Chronicles 22:10

“ He ( Solomon )  shall build a house for My Name ( Messiah )

and HE (Messiah) shall be My Son and I will be His Father.”

“ Therefore arise and build the sanctuary of the LORD GOD ……..

The house that is to be built for The NAME of The LORD.”

                                                       1 Chronicles 22:19

The NAME of the LORD  =  The LORD GOD

How can a name be equivalent to a person?  Only if the name is not

just a name but in fact is a person.

The NAME of the LORD is the Messiah or as the New Testament reveals

                                             The LORD JESUS CHRIST

So now we have by substitution The Lord Jesus Christ = The LORD God

as has been shown in many other ways.

By the mathematical principles of  Substitution and  Equivalency we arrive

At the unveiling and revelation of the many titles and designations for the

Tetragrammaton (YHVH) correctly rendered LORD as affirmed by the

LORD Himself in the New Testament.   JESUS is LORD.  Understanding

This we see that JESUS is YHVH. So we should certainly have no problem

In giving the NAME of GOD His due.

“ Ascribe to the LORD the Glory due to His NAME.”  Psalm 29:2

OT : “ I will give thanks to Thy NAME, O LORD, for IT is good.

For HE has delivered me from all trouble.”          Psalm 54:6,7

NT : “ Always giving thanks for all things in the NAME of our

LORD JESUS CHRIST to GOD the Father.                Ephesians 5:20

“So let it be established that Your NAME

                  May be Magnified Forever,

‘Saying the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel,

                              Is Israel’s God.’”

                                1 Chronicles 17:24

“Therefore glorify the LORD in the East,

                   The NAME of the LORD

                        The GOD of Israel.”

                                                     Isaiah   24:15

Who is the GOD of Israel, Israel’s GOD?

                    The LORD of Hosts

                 The NAME of the LORD

“Now it was in the heart of my Father David to

build a house for the NAME of the LORD –

                                                 The GOD of ISRAEL

                                                          1 Kings 8:17

Who is the GOD of Israel?  The NAME of The LORD

What and Who is the NAME of the LORD?

“Behold the NAME of the LORD comes from a

remote place burning in HIS anger ….”

                                                 Isaiah 30:27

“So they will fear the NAME of the LORD from the west and

His GLORY from the rising of the sun for HE will come like

       A rushing stream.”    Isaiah 59:19

“ And the WORD became flesh and dwelt among us “

                                       John 1:14

The WORD of GOD became a person – Jesus Christ -

The NAME of GOD became a person – Jesus Christ.

“ Let the NAME of GOD be blessed forever for

Wisdom and Power belong to HIM.”

                                    Daniel 2:20

“ They will sanctify MY NAME; Indeed they will

sanctify the HOLY ONE of Jacob and will

stand in awe of the GOD of ISRAEL.”

                                       Isaiah 29:23

Again, His NAME is not just a name but a Person –

The HOLY ONE of JACOB and

                            The GOD of ISRAEL.

Just like the WORD is not just a word but a Person

“ I will praise the NAME of GOD with song and

                shall magnify           HIM         with thanksgiving

                                                 Psalm   69:30

“ Through   HIM  then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice

of praise to GOD, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His NAME”

                                                Hebrews 13:15

“ May His NAME endure forever;  May His NAME

Increase as long as the sun shines and let men bless themselves

                                             by         HIM

Let all nations  call       HIM     Blessed.”       Psalm 72:17

Save me, O GOD, by  Thy NAME.”               Psalm 54:1

Let them praise Thy Great and Awesome NAME

                                Holy is HE

                                  Psalm 99:3

Let them praise the LORD’S  NAME,  for HE

            Commanded and they were created.

                                  Psalm 148:5

Our Help is in the LORD’S  NAME,  WHO

                        made heaven and earth.

                                  Psalm 124:8

May the LORD answer you in the Day of Trouble

May the NAME of the GOD of Jacob set you securely

                                on high.    Psalm 20:1

Speaking of  JESUS  the Apostle Paul declares:

“ALL THINGS have been created by HIM and for HIM

He is before ALL THINGS and in HIM ALL THINGS

                 Hold together.”    Colossians 1:16.17

“One LORD – One Faith – One Baptism – One GOD

and Father of ALL who is over ALL and Through ALL

and in ALL.” Eph. 4:6   HE who descended is HIMSELF also

HE who ascended that HE might fill ALL THINGS. Eph 4:10

CHRIST IS ALL AND IN ALL

                           Colossians 3:11

For it was the Father’s good pleasure for ALL the

                        Fullness to dwell in HIM

For in HIM ALL the Fullness of Deity Dwells in

                             Bodily Form

                          Colossians 1:19  2:9

ALL THINGS the Father has are Mine. John 16:15
